SANTA ROSA, CA. (November 1, 2000) - BroadLink Communications, Inc., a next-generation wireless broadband carrier headquartered in Santa Rosa, CA, announced today that it is using a Cisco Systems network to offer its wireless Internet services, including Internet access and other value-added services. Further, BroadLink's services have been qualified as Cisco Powered Network services.
Using Cisco's 12000 Series Internet router, 7200 Series routers, and 5500 and 6500 series switches, BroadLink offers high-capacity bandwidth and value-added solutions -- matching wire-DSL in performance and cost - to small, mid-size, and enterprise businesses and homes, both within and outside the 18,000 foot limit for wire-DSL.
"Cisco and BroadLink Communications share a common belief in the advantages of an IP network and its ability to deliver various value-added Internet applications," said Warren Linney, chairman and CEO of BroadLink Communications, Inc. "Deploying Cisco Powered Network services will enable us to provide our customers high quality, reliable IP-based services."
After they have met stringent criteria, Cisco Systems provides its certified Cisco Powered Network partners with access to Cisco's co-op marketing programs, technology sharing, and joint selling programs. "BroadLink's participation in the Cisco Powered Network program demonstrates its commitment to delivering industry-leading wireless Internet services," said Kevin Outcalt, senior director of service provider marketing for Cisco Systems. "Their New World network will enable their customers to reap the benefits of wireless broadband."
BroadLink's proprietary wireless WAN (Wide Area Network) product, called "BrightEdge"SM, enables the Company to offer service in a metropolitan-wide area that is superior to wire-DSL and cable, while at the same time eliminating the service provisioning difficulties and delays commonly associated with wire-based services. The new "BrightEdge"SM technology, together with Cisco's equipment, gives BroadLink's network the ability to seamlessly manage traffic between multiple service providers, scalably provisioning their end users.
"BroadLink's "BrightEdge"SM technology allows them to take full advantage of the Cisco Aironet wireless LAN equipment to deploy a secure, robust and scalable solution that enables BroadLink to match DSL pricing and service levels," said Bill Rossi, Director of Marketing for Cisco's Desktop Switching Unit. "BroadLink's ability to provision multiple ISPs across a metropolitan-wide, wireless DSL network is an innovative and unique service-offering."
The Company's Wide Area Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) also enhances delivery of a wide variety of value-added services, including priority caching for ASPs, multi-party video conferencing and gaming, encryption, and Virtual Private Network (VPN). In addition, it will in the near future permit delivery of such IP-based services as voice over IP, video, and interactive content.
Broadlink Communications, Inc. is a next-generation wireless broadband carrier. Broadlink provides Internet Protocol (IP) transport and content delivery services through ISPs and CLECs, enabling them to meet the demand from their small and medium enterprise, SOHO, and residential customers for high-speed Internet access - a demand not being met by DSL and cable providers, due to their technological limitations and/or resource constraints. Broadlink's high-speed wireless networks, currently operational in both Santa Rosa and Stockton, California, cost-effectively deliver Internet connections at speeds up to 5.5 Mbps (54 Mbps in 2001), which is faster than 3G networks, cable, or DSL. The Company is in the process of building networks in the San Francisco/Silicon Valley region, as well as Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit.
